When a family in Australia set up a birdbath outside their house, they were hoping to attract a lot of happy birds to their yard. The results ended up being very different.
The family went to check on the birdbath one day, wanting to make sure the water level was OK — and discovered someone very unexpected had decided to use the bath instead.
There in the bath was a very large carpet python, so big that he took up the entire tub.
A bit alarmed, the family contacted Stuart McKenzie of Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7, who assured them that everything was going to be OK.
“We do often find snakes hanging around water like birdbaths and water features in people’s yards,” McKenzie told The Dodo. “To cool down and get out of the heat of the day. He may have been going through the sloughing (shedding skin) phase and this would help with that.”
While the bath may have been meant for birds, the family decided to appreciate their new scaly visitor for who he was — and the snake certainly enjoyed his relaxing swim.
"The family were happy to leave him there," McKenzie said. "The snake eventually moved on."
And after being such a well-behaved guest, we're sure he'll be welcomed back.
